The Graduate School of Seisen University offers studies leading to three Master's degrees and a Doctoral degree. The Graduate School is open to men as well as women.
Master's Program in Language and Culture
This program offers courses in literature, linguistics and culture. The objective is to provide an education which imparts a knowledge of the humanities, based upon Seisen University's ideal of Christian Humanism. It is hoped to provide people with an education which, as a result of an in-depth study of language and culture, will enable them to contribute to society in an age of rapidly expanding information and internationalization.
The program is in a particularly good position to offer courses on subjects pertaining to the Spanish-speaking world and Christian Studies as well as such areas as Translation, Applied Linguistics in Culture and Communication, and Teaching Methodology.
Master's Program in Thought and Culture
The objectives of this course are to produce a heightened awareness of the historical role played by thought as the basis of world cultures, and by so doing to produce scholars in related fields, as well as professionals in such fields as education and communication at the cultural level.
Master's Program in Studies on Global Citizenship
Studies of the Global Citizenship MA program are designed for those who are interested in obtaining a Masterfs Degree over two years, while working at a regular job. Courses are offered from Monday through Friday from 6:10 p.m., as well as on Saturdays.
The Studies of the Global Citizenship MA program are for people who gthink globally and act locally,h with an innovative yet logical and realistic approach. The program offers an excellent opportunity for people who have been working and wish to further their academic pursuits in research and studies of global citizenship.
The degree obtained upon completion of the program is a Master's of Arts Degree in Global Citizenship, which enables people to work in and outside of Japan with professional knowledge, heightened global perception, and practical language skills. The program covers peace, development, environment, population, and other pertinent global issues, as well as preparing people for major roles in international organizations, national and local government agencies, corporations, not-for-profit organizations and other entities.
Doctoral Program in Humanities
Advanced studies for the doctorate degree are offered based on the two master's programs of Langeage and Culture and Thought and Culture. Interdisciplinary, integrated research in culture from a language-based perspective is focused on in the following four areas: Literature, Applied Linguistics (language teaching, discourse-pragmatics, and translation), Christian Thought and Cultural History.
