Japanese Culture and Language Intensive Program in Japan

Special Winter Program:January 24 through February 11, 2010

The two to four-week intensive program offers a great opportunity to learn the language as well as cultural aspects of Japan.

Language Program

Small group instruction of an average of 12 students.
 Grouping is done prior to start of classes based on knowledge and fluency of students.
 Trained and experienced instructors of Japanese as a foreign language. Personalized attention will be given by trained student assistants.
 Writing and reading are taken care of through homework and by assistants outside formal class hours.
 Immediately following formal classes, you can try what you learn with assistants who are trained to teach Japanese as a foreign language and can provide personalized attention to each student.

Culture Program

Combination of lectures, field trips and hands-on experiences of contemporary and traditional Japanese Culture.

Host Family Program

Each student will experience week-end stays with a Japanese family. Host families are students of Seisen or Seisen alumni. Some host families are outside Tokyo and we encourage students to see and experience regional differences.

Met by representatives of Seisen to be transferred to Yoyogi Olympic Center - Arrival Orientation at the Center
Jan. 25 9:30-11:30 Orientation & Placement
Japanese Classes
Culture Program (Geography, Demography, History, etc.)
Jan. 26 through 30 Japanese Classes & Culture Program (Living, customs, habits, characters, performing arts, etc.)
Jan. 31 Optional Tours
Feb. 1 Depart for Kofu, Yamanashi
Visit Takeda Shrine
Stay at a Japanese Inn with Onsen (hot spa) – Typical Japanese dinner served
Karaoke Night
Feb. 2 Move to Yamanashi Prefectural Youth Center
Experience Japanese culture at a temple, including Zazen meditation, tea ceremony, etc.
Feb. 3 Japanese Classes in the morning
Visit Yamanashi Prefectural Museum
Hands-on experience with Japanese traditional arts and craft
Feb. 4 Move back to Tokyo by bus
Culture Program in preparation for Home-stay
Feb. 5 Japanese Classes
Meet host families and go to their homes
Feb. 6 & 7 Home stay

Electricity

100 v and we recommend that students bring converter or borrow hair dryers and other necessary items from us.

Internet

There are internet connection at the Olympic Center and at Seisen. We will have two computers available for students at Seisen and one at the Olympic Center.

Items students should bring

All toiletry and cosmetic items as well as medications.
Bath Towel, Warm clothing including pajamas (Temperature will be between 5 to 10 °C )
Gifts to host families (host families are volunteers and provide meals, etc. for students)

Laundry

There are washing machines (200 yen) and dryers (100 yen / 10 min) at the Olympic Center. We will have detergent available for students, free of charge.

Certificate

Certificate of Completion will be given to each student.

Supervision

We provide necessary supervision and special assistance for those under 20 years old. Staff will be available 24 hr/day at college and student housing facilities. Staff will accompany all field trips.

Application

A 10% deposit or \16,200 (non-refundable unless the participant cancels one month prior to the start of the program) should be submitted with your application.
All fees should be paid two weeks prior to commencement of the program. Fee paid will be refunded (except the initial deposit) only if students withdraw from the program 2 weeks (10 working days) prior to commencement of the program.

Insurance

We recommend that you have “Overseas Travel Insurance” for loss of luggage, health and air ticket guarantee, etc.
